Frieder Nagel continues his new series with “Who Knows” featuring Daniel Brandt, producer, drummer and co-founder of the acclaimed Brandt Brauer Frick ensemble. A dark, menacing piece driven by severe rhythmic tension, the track builds relentlessly as long, elegiac melodies evolve and dissolve within majestic string arrangements and Nagel’s signature Moog textures. 

It’s the contrast that makes “Who Knows” so compelling: Nagel’s calm, melodic sensibility meets Brandt’s impulsive, near-restless energy, creating a tension that’s hard to pin down. Where “Do As I Please” wrestled with overcoming creative struggle, “Who Knows” reads like a blueprint for Nagel’s new artistic direction—moving further from his downtempo/electronica origins toward new shores and inspirations, delivering raw, fresh music that leaves listeners wondering what’s next.

Frieder Nagel finally returns to InFiné with a new series of his beloved retro-futuristic and symphonic electronica. Much more beat-focussed and with lots of pressure - but still driven by the same elegant balance between traditional instruments and his obsession for vintage synths.

"Do as I please" is about the endless fight between letting go and the wish to control. The inner dialogue inside everybody's head, between the inner voices of despair and hope. A reflection about the overwhelming wish to break out of the machinery, while at the same time longing for stability.
